Until we meet again|再見

The inspiration for this project comes from witnessing my elderly family member's battle with Parkinson's disease. Through caregiving, I gained a deeper understanding of the connection between aging and physical deterioration. Parkinson's, a neurodegenerative disease most common in older individuals, results in the gradual loss of neurons and decline in dopamine levels, leading to tremors, muscle stiffness, and potentially, dementia.

Observing my family members struggling with mobility evoked thoughts about the concept of human malfunction due to disability. The artwork takes the form of exploring human "faults" through a blend of mechanical power and everyday objects, with a focus on the "walking" dynamics represented through a crank-link structure. The assemblage of found objects from elderly living spaces serves as a metaphor for the complexities of life and the machine-like nature of human existence. 
 
The ultimate completion of this work may serve as a symbolic farewell, capturing the arduous journey of caregiving and the inevitable passage of time.


作品的發想源於家中長輩罹患帕金森氏症的經驗,照護的過程中,讓我意識到老化與身體機能衰退的關聯。帕金森氏症是一種神經退化的疾病,好發於高齡的長者,隨著歲數的增長,神經元的逐漸死亡導致腦內的多巴胺含量不足,將會從四肢的顫抖,肌肉僵硬慢慢併發失智,這樣漸進式的死亡,如同一台故障的機器,演示著肉體的緩慢凋零。當我看著家中的長輩,手持輔具以一種相當遲緩的速度拖著無力的雙腳,僅僅是為了獲得前進的動力時,人似乎又回到了一種最原始的狀態,回到了最初學習如何走路的記憶,這一刻,在我腦中盤旋著一個問題,人的失能,究竟是不是一種故障?

作品形式奠基在人的「故障」為想像,著重於機械動力與現成物的結合,以「走路」的動態為始,採用曲柄連桿結構製成,透過單向的碎步行走,模擬患者步態異常的失衡狀態,延長線的存在除了箝制動力機械的行走範圍外,同時呈現了動力機械與電源相互拉扯的施「力」關係,如同機器之於動能,人類之於生命的隱喻。而現成物的選擇與拼裝,多以獨居老者的生活空間為依據,加上個人感性經驗的拾取,如褶皺具呼吸感的被褥、輔具零件的暗示、散落的囤積拾得物、空間幽微的光線等等,我試圖從經驗轉換為物件的過程,結合物質之間相互摩擦產生的聲響,模擬人體關節因運動產生的聲音,透過收束這份感受的同時,提出人類、疾病與機器三者之間緊密的關係,藉此呈現「鄭氏動力學」在動力機械之中的故障美學。

照護之路漫漫,如機器等待著斷電。作品的完成,或許僅僅是一則寓言 ∕ 預言,一場盛大的告別。
